OUR STORY
Opportunity Enterprises was opened in April of 2008 to provide quality services to adults with cognitive and intellectual impairments both in their homes and in the communities in which they live. Emphasis was placed on highly personalized supports that would enhance the individual's life and allow them to accomplish their dreams.
In 2012 the Joyce Dubay Center for Creativity was opened in memory of Joyce Dubay, an extremely creative woman who had a passion for anything hand-crafted. There wasn't a craft or skill she couldn't learn and quickly master in spite of debilitating arthritis which primarily affected her hands and knees. She was also my grandmother and I remember watching her when I was younger, making masterpieces of all kinds. The individuals receiving services at OEI have been encouraged to follow her creative path and use art as a means of self-expression, learning, and self-worth.
One of Joyce's many talents was creating works of art in cake. For many years she made and decorated cakes for all occasions, from an 8" round birthday cake to wedding cakes that were 6' tall! Her supplies have moved to the Joyce Dubay Center where individuals with disabilities have learned, among many things, how to bake and decorate. Hence, The Cupcakery was born!
The Cupcakery was opened in April of 2014 to not only continue with the mission of Opportunity Enterprises and the Joyce Dubay Center but to provide the area with great cupcakes made from scratch with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Furthermore, The Cupcakery provides work opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Here individuals are assisted to learn various job skills for real pay with 100% of the profits going back to the larger agency in support of the various programs offered at OEI.
Please join us in furthering the mission of The Cupcakery!
